PUTTING AN END TO T1D, ONE STEP AT A TIME
Our team is walking to create a world without type 1 diabetes (T1D). As a type 1 diabetic myself, this walk means so much to me. This year (2017) the walk will take place on October 1st, and we are walking in the Palos Hills location @ Morraine Valley College. Please take the time to read into the event and join us in the walk for a cure. With this walk directly affecting me, I plan to donate and participate in many events that support others like myself, and I would love to experience this walk of love with all of you. Any support towards this cause is greatly appreciated.
I have struggled with this disease for over 8 years now. Over the course of those 8 years I have witnessed the progress that is being made in controlling the disease but there still is no cure. I am starting to face many complications from the disease, and it has drastically effected my day to day activities and my ability to work. I am a professional cosmetologist that has had to retire my salon chair at the young age of 26 due to my body not being able to handle the hard tedious work or the long demanding hours associated with being a stylist. One thing I can say about me having to retire my styling chair and salon at such an early age, is that it has given me the time to focus on my original love of fashion. With my newfound following that I have gotten from my fellow fashion lovers, I want to extend this invitation to those others to help me join the cause. If you are in the Chicagoland area and would love to walk with us please register, join the team "Minovet Walks For T1D", and contact me if interested in purchasing a $30 shirt, $20 diabetic supply pouch or wristlet, or a $10 headband where 50% of all sales will go towards our team donation goal for the walk. I will be making a page on my website dedicated to this cause, so be on the lookout for that soon. I will gladly provide charitable contribution receipts to all that purchase, and you can register as well as track our donation progress from our team page here. Even if you are unable to walk, you can still register, donate, and list yourself as a non-walker and support us from afar. We have set a goal of $1,000, but of course, any donation, large or small is greatly appreciated, and depending on how much we raise, I can increase the goal to offer more to the cause. No purchase is required to participate or to donate. Once a cure is found, you will have all of the bragging rights to say, I helped find a cure!
For those unaware of what type 1 diabetes actually is here is a quick description of this chronic auto immune disease. When you have T1D, your pancreas stops producing insulin—a hormone essential to turning food into energy. This means you must constantly monitor your blood-sugar level, administer insulin, and carefully balance these insulin doses with your eating and activity just to stay alive and to ward off the many complications that this disease exposes us to. With T1D there are no days off and there is no cure. But there is hope! By donating or joining our JDRF One Walk® team today, you’ll support research for life-changing breakthroughs to make it safer and easier to live with T1D, until we find a cure. http://www2.jdrf.org/goto/Minovet
Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions and would love to walk with us. Again, I will be selling t-shirts and headbands, and maybe even a special tutu so we can stand out in the crowd, as well as cute fashionable diabetic supply pouches for diabetics that are tired of carrying those standard pouches that lets everyone know that you are a diabetic at first glance. 50% of all sales will go towards our team's donation goal. No purchase is necessary to donate and all donations large and small count! Share away and support a Type 1 Diabetics like myself! #Minovet #SimplyMINO
